MRC Call for Proposals


The Mauritius Research Council (MRC) is the apex body for the promotion and coordination of Government investment in research.  The Council invites researchers/individuals as well as institutions to submit applications under the following four (4) clusters:

A. Research Grant Schemes:    
  1. Unsolicited Research Grant Scheme
  2. Small Scale Research Grant Scheme
  3. Public Sector Collaborative Research Grant Scheme    

B. Innovation and Commercialisation Schemes:    
  1. Business Angels Forum Support Scheme
  2. Intellectual Property Promotion Scheme 
  3. Business Research Incubator Centre (BRIC)

C. Research Support Schemes:     
  1. Conference/Workshop Organisation Funding Scheme
  2. Conference/Workshop Attendance Sponsorship
  3. Publication Sponsorship
  4. Mauritian Diaspora Research Funding Scheme  

D. Capacity Building / Award Scheme:
  1. MRC Postgraduate Award
  2. MRC Postgraduate Award - Marine Renewable Energy

Applications under the Unsolicited Research Grant Scheme, Small Scale Research Grant Scheme and the MRC Postgraduate Award should be in line with the following priority areas identified by the Council:
  1. Ocean Economy
  2. Sustainable Resource Management
  3. Human Resources
  4. Life Sciences
  5. Information and Communication Technologies
  6. Socio-Economic Issues and
  7. Emerging Sectors

Selection for funding will be based on:

(a)    The originality, the intellectual merit research value, the potential to enhance collaboration  and capacity building and innovative nature of the proposed research in Mauritius and its outer islands; and

(b)    The strategic importance of the proposal for the socio-economic development of the Republic of Mauritius.

Funding will depend on the scheme under which the prospective applicant will apply and the number of applications received.

Expression of Interest
Prospective applicants are requested to forward their proposals (a soft version and 1 hard version) to the Council using appropriate templates and guidelines, which can be downloaded from the MRC Website.  Applicants should consult the existing policies being applied for the grant schemes prior to submitting their applications.

Applicants may also wish to discuss their ideas with the MRC Research Management Team prior to submission of their proposals.

All information disclosed will be dealt with in strict confidentiality.

Only applications/proposals which are submitted to the Council using appropriate templates and guidelines will be considered.

All applications should be forwarded to the Executive Director in an envelope clearly labelled “Call for Proposals – October 2014” on the top right hand side at latest by Friday 31st October 2014 at 15hrs.
