Welcome
The Mauritius Research Council (MRC) was set up in 1992 (Act No. 10 of 1992) as an apex body to promote and coordinate Government investment in research.

The MRC acts as a central body to advise Government on Science and Technology issues and to influence the direction of technological innovation by funding research projects in areas of national priority and encouraging strategic partnerships.

Our Vision:

“Shaping up the Mauritius of tomorrow through research, technology and innovation”

Our Mission:

“Promoting and pioneering research for sustainable development to enhance the quality of life of the people of Mauritius”

Evolving Context:

With the creation of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research & Technology (MoTESRT) the areas of Science, Research, Technology & Innovation (SRTI) are increasingly acknowledged as important and necessary to increase our nation’s competitiveness in global markets, prosperity and quality of life. A new mindset that promotes multi-disciplinary approaches to national issues and cross-institutional collaboration is essential in creating an environment that motivates our citizens to innovate. There is a need to explore avenues to channel resources in our institutions and refocus our research endeavours onto issues of national importance within an accountable, cost-effective and results-oriented strategic framework.

Fundamental to this framework is a new approach towards innovation that is solidly based on development of partnerships among research organizations, academia, the private sector and investors. Mauritian enterprises, large and small need to have access to cutting edge technology. At the same time the Mauritian society at large needs to value Science, Technology and Innovation and an innovation culture needs to be embedded within our collective conscience.
